So many books, so little time.

Desired by the Alien Prince- Ava Acitore

If you knew me at all, 8 o’clock wouldn’t catch me in bed unless I was cuddled up with a good book. Chores done, well fed, I was in the mood for some good reading. With Desired by an Alien Prince on my laptop screen, I was ready and hella willing to spend hours consuming the book. I started, my smile stretched a mile long and in under an hour my reading ended. No, not because I fell asleep or because I was summoned to a family meeting. No my good people, it was because the book had ended. Literally ended, final word, full stop.

Okay, let me walk you through this short read. Melanie/ Miranda Collier, I couldn’t tell for certain the actual name of the protagonist and apparently, neither could the author. The story introduced her as Melanie and if my count was on point and memory served well, she became Miranda two or three times during the read. Very confusing, but out of the kindness of my heart I allowed that error to slide.

Melanie works for a Jared Scott as his administrative assistant. The fellow who lost his wife of three years to a car accident has not reported to work. He has disappeared without the courtesy of leaving a note to confirm his wellbeing. Like a good and caring employee, Melanie doesn’t pick up the phone to check on him or stop by his home. Nope, she does the honorable thing and assumes his role as boss.  Thursday she was greeted by the message he left her on her answering machine. His voice hoarse, he explained that he was sick, laryngitis had him singing the blues. Still no concrete reason to check on him, she continues to run his company for the remainder of the week.

Unwinding nicely at her dead parents’ lake house, a vision hits her. A burn mark on Jared’s neck showed up in her psyche. This was all the motivation she needed to pick up her butt and plant it into her car and drive to his house. However, she never gets there. A minor road accident left her head in a daze. I mean real daze. The girl imagined herself being rescued by a knight in shining armor, riding a white horse.

Who is this knight you ask? Jared Scott? Looks can be very deceiving. Her knight in armor is a Jared Scott look alike. His real name, Odin of Cartonia. He is an alien prince who has come to mate with Melanie or Miranda Collier. Whoever. The protagonist. In an effort to unite his planet and Earth. This is no dream. This is her reality. I thought I had witnessed enough insta-romance but this one beats them all by a mile and some. Did you know it only takes an alien prince who knows nothing about love eight days to fall in love with a human, and impregnate her with his heir? Hey, you learn something new every day.

Everything in my opinion happened too fast and the protagonist was way too accepting of such life changing events. I know fiction isn’t one hundred percent reality but there must be some levels of believability. But maybe I just don’t understand the order of things on planet Cartonia. Perhaps I’m the once suffering from ignorance. Take a read and tell me how you enjoyed this story. Happy Reading!

Nag Nag Nag- Kathy Steinemann

Do this, fix that, tidy this that and the other. All that nagging. Worst part is it's endless. Megan has no mute button and God knows her husband of forty years, Emmett would rejoice if she came with one.

Emmett is more of the laid back, chilled dad, husband and grandpa. He keeps Megan grounded and stops her from popping a vein. After counting down the time, all 8655 minutes, he is retired, and does some pretty important stuff while enjoying his days at home. Here is just a few of his antics: creating a raincoat for his granddaughter out of duct tape, or as the five year old calls it, 'duck tape'. His grocery shopping mission with his wife. Let's just say it cost them a carton of heavy cream. And I can't forget the time he put on his chef hat and decided to bake a cake for Megan. How sweet. The thought anyway. As for the cake......burn baby burn comes to mind.

I lived for the interactions between these two characters. However, I wished I got to see how the pranks played out. God knows I wanted to be there when Emmett stuffed his face with cookies and sweet toothpaste. Darn.

The story also introduces us to their daughter and two grandchildren. To clear the record, it wasn't tears in my eyes during the moment when they watched the video of Paul, husband and father who perished in a vehicle accident. It was.......sweat. Yeah, that's what it was. During the breezy night, somehow, I can't and won't explain, a few beads of sweat formed on my forehead, and casually rolled in my eyes. Sounds plausible enough. So you see they weren't tears people.

Laughs after laughs kept rolling out. Too bad I chose to read it at night..... I was being shushed and all. Try as I might (didn't try much) I couldn't suppress the laughs. The jokes in my opinions didn't seem forced and managed to effortlessly flow out of the mouths of the characters. Short and entertaining to the very end. I loved the read so til. Happy reading!

Maid in the USA- Judy Angelo

Who's behind every hotels' 1206 presidential suite? A naked Pierce D’Amato of course. With his piercing green eyes, narrow waist and broad shoulders. Wait a minute, I'm just getting word that this isn't a typical occurrence. Darn. Sorry single ladies. However, we can dream, can't we?

Imagine Celine Santini's shock when she walked in on this remarkable specimen of a male. Hair sleeked in an old fashion bun, clothed in a less than fashionable uniform and a stack of fresh towels in her hand was how they met. Not necessarily the most ideal way you'd want to discover Prince Charming. But she wasn't in his suite for love or pleasurable kicks, she was on duty- maid duty. She was a maid by summer and by October, she would be  transformed into a university student, enrolled in her second year of the PhD program in Psychology.

Upon seeing him in such a state her first thought was to run, only after burning his physique into memory. So she did as her mind said and retreated. But he wouldn't let her leave. Could you please calm down you little Worry Nelly. His mission isn't to take advantage of her, he needs her.

How could she possibly be of any help to him? Nuh di same ting Celine a wonda (That's the same thing Celine wondered). As it turns out his dying cousin had a little girl and when she slipped into a coma, he became an overnight daddy. Congrats Pierce. Thing is, he has no clue on what being a guardian entails. Yet, he doesn't want to turn away his new charge. He embraces the idea and the curly haired, four year old named Kylie. A nanny was just what they needed. Someone who would take care of Kylie during his long work hours. But it couldn't be just anyone. She needed to be a special one. One who would connect with this little girl who had lost her father at two, and was now on the verge of being motherless, unless some miraculous turn of events.

After much thought Celine accepts the new job opportunity, and Kylie immediately takes a liking to her.  What about Pierce in all of this though? Did he only see Celine as Kylie's nanny and friend or more? I'll just say MORE, MORE and so much MORE. The lines of professionalism gets blurred due to the discovery of desire.

The read allows us to experience loss, rejection times two, or maybe even three and near death. When the dust cleared, a beautiful love story was revealed. Happy Reading!

Heartache Queen Unshackled- Cameka Taylor

Only a fool learns from his own mistakes, but the wise seeks wisdom from the experiences of others. I found Ms. Taylor to be a brave and courageous soul, sharing with readers her past, failures and present desires. Most of us don’t even have the nerve to be honest with ourselves, instead we painfully cover our flaws and suffer in silence. On the other hand, she is a woman of strength who wasn’t afraid to expose her good, bad and ugly. Not to be pitied or judged, but to edify and to encourage all and every generation.

Many of us sit and bear the labour of unspoken pains and hurts. Afraid that we will be mocked or treated as outcast. So concerned about the world’s view that we fail to see our shattered image. This book seeks to wrap its readers in truth. Truth about identity, truth about mistakes, truth about our source of strength. Ms. Taylor took us into her personal journey. Along the way she revealed her bruises, her scars but most importantly she introduced us to her healer, her restorer, Christ Jesus.

She encourages us to speak out when we are in pain, to put an end to our silent, torturous internal death. The storms come but not to stay, not to last, only to pass over.

During the final pages of my read a question popped into my head, “Who am I?” I was first asked this question in my tenth grade English class. Not knowing truly who I was, I began to heave thoughtless words unto a paper. All I needed at the time were enough words that would equal a decent short essay. So I rambled on about my short list of academic achievements and I babbled about my family, and I ensured I squeezed in a line or two about my religion. Essay completed but the question still remained unanswered. I am proud to say that this book has brought out some meaning of my identity and I am happy to share the revelation:

Who am I?
I am loved, prized and valued. I am beautiful, superior to no one, inferior to none. I am a woman of passion and purpose. Fearfully (made to respect God) and wonderfully made by my creator, the author of LOVE. I am destined for greatness. My steps are ordered and set in the will of God. I am a woman of favor, grace and mercy. With confidence and elegance in my stride, I face the world without fear, but with optimism. I am love in the flesh. I am hope. I am forgiven so to my offenders I am able to offer forgiveness. I am who I am. Healed from my pains and made strong by my insecurities. No approval needed. No need for apologies. I am a child of the most High. Who am I? I am Chantol Aspinall. Nice to meet you. Now I ask, “Who do you say you are?”

Get ready for an awakening, get ready for transformation. Get ready to experience newness and the touch of God. It’s a new season. Your season. Embrace it, without fear. Happy Reading!

Baby Bonanza- Maureen Child

We travel with Jenna Baker on Falcon’s Pride where the ocean stretches to infinity, the cabins are dipped in splendor and the laughter and excitement of other passengers fills the air. Too bad we aren’t there to milk the pleasures of this cruise organized by Nick Falcon. Oh no. We have business to tend to, well, not us but we love to spectate. Prepare yourself for a rocky journey.

We find ourselves tucked away in the ‘belly of the beast’ with Jenna. Nowhere in the cabins of wealth, instead refuge is found in Riviera Deck; the lowest of lows. Lower than employee’s quarters. The sounds of the waves as it slaps the ship torments us, the space produces a sense of confinement and don’t even get me started about the lightening. What lightening? Exactly, there really isn’t any. Why would someone of sound mind pay to vacation in a less than humane way? Come to find out this isn’t for fun, far from it, it’s personal.

The history between Nick Falcon and Jenna Baker go a little something like this. Jenna worked as Nick’s stewardess on one of his other cruise line. One magical night under the hypnotizing moonlight, coupled with love tunes the two met. Where he wooed and romanced her for a week. All the while believing she was just a passenger looking to have a good time. He didn’t ask, she didn’t tell him the details of her employment. Secrets never stay hidden for long and somehow he found out exactly who she was. No time to explain, once they reached shore she was fired. However, she went home with more than just a broken heart.

A year had passed without contact, even though she had reached out to him via emails. This proved the last straw, he would talk to her. She would make sure of it. With her little savings she boarded his ship, her pride left in California. She was willing to forget about their time together- well, she tried. This visit was for her twin sons, the ones he had a hand in creating.

I’m not a big fan of long description but I enjoyed how Ms. Child spaced out the details of the scenery, not at all overwhelming. The interactions between the characters were relatable based on the circumstances. If insta-romance is your thing you’ll be drooling all over this book, begging to be served more. Though I’m not for insta-romance, I must admit this book was interesting and I enjoyed my second read.

With this ring I thee dread- Ruth Ann Nordin

Arranged marriages, in a word, are so OLD-FASHION (mom and dad, I BEG of you, don’t get any ideas). Well, at least I thought so. I know who’d disagree with me; Elizabeth’s and Ryan’s parents. They thought it was the only way their adult children would find love and happiness.
Ryan and Elizabeth didn’t agree. They kicked, screamed and argued. When they heard they’d both lose their jobs working for their parents’ companies and be disowned, that quieted their protest. QUICK! The arrangement went something like this; they were to get married at the courthouse, and right after they would be flown off to Alaska, where they’d stay for four months at Mr. and Mrs. Valentine’s vacation cabin.
During that time they were cut off from society, their only means of communicating with the outside world was through letters which were collected every month. Talk about isolation, however, with a good friend I could so do this. Ryan and Elizabeth weren’t friends, they carried bad blood from their high school days. You wait until you find out the reason or dare I say persons who added the fuel to the fire.
Living together proved challenging and to be honest I thought someone would return home suffering from bodily harm. All that bickering. I wanted this to work as much as their parents. Sighzzzz, I was rooting for them throughout the read. Go Elizabeth and Ryan! Jeez, just fall in love already.
I fell in love with this book and perhaps the rest of Ms. Nordin’s work. I enjoyed reading this story, couldn’t get enough of it at one point. I’d recommend it to anyone.
Wrap yourself in a blanket and cuddle up to this good book. Happy reading!

The Doctor and The Assassin - Lietha Wards

Who knew a doctor and trained assassin would create the perfect pair? I sure didn’t. But, thanks Ms. Wards for showing us that anything is possible when it comes to the world of fiction. This story breaks every commandment ever created under the sun. Well, at least I think it does, but don’t take my word for it, count the sins when you read and we’ll compare notes.

The story focuses on a doctor, intelligent, beautiful and persistent to boot. I kid you not, if you searched for a tenacious doctor, Dr. Jordan would pop up like a virus. Any other guy would look at some of her actions as stalkerish, but not Nick. Oh no! Which makes sense, the boy has seen a lot of crazies. I mean A LOT. He tries to play the “good guy” and keep Jordan at arm’s length for her own darn safety. But would she quit? Did I mention her stubbornness? So to answer my initial question, the answer is a big ol’ Hell no. She wants to get to know him but he fights the feeling to love her, crashing and burning in the process. Maybe she’s just too adorable for her own good.

Sorry to break it to ya Nick but you’ve landed into a romance novel. Deal with it. There is no escaping the disease called LOVE.

Okay so they get involved, yet he keeps his pass tucked away like his gun. Away from Jordan in an effort to ease her into his lifestyle without scaring her. To keep her he must reveal who he is, the real him. The ruthless side of him will be brought to the light. Surprisingly, well it surprised the heck outta me, she hops into the lifestyle real well. As if she was made to be the lover of an assassin.

Oh did I mention Ms. Jordan has a secret admirer? Well she does and I would rethink cheering if I were you. Now I thought this would lead to some type of crazy, I can’t decide who I love, love triangle. But what did Ms. Wards do? She swerved on me, bringing me down another road. I thought I had this story all figured out. High off curiosity I had to continue the read.

Mind you, I squirmed a bit during the butt kicking, assassin type, you got served stuff. I’m just that type of girl.

No shade and definitely no tea (I’m all out of tea bags), I still enjoyed reading this story. Talk about odd couple but sweet romance nonetheless.

Bound by Blood- Tracey Jackson

This particular eBook beckoned unto me saying, 'Read me!"

To tell the truth, I near hissed my teeth and clicked Next, but there was something about the cover that screamed ROMANCE. I can't put a finger on it, perhaps it had something to do with the scene of kissary. Maybe. Next thing I knew I was intrigued. Darn you cover designer, darn you.

Initially, the title had me believing I would open up a world that told a vampire love story. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing off putting about a blood sucking creature of the night, surrendering to the power of love. However, I'm not about the vampire life. I'm sorry die-heart Twilight fans. But before you start throwing stones, I have nothing against fang wearing, blood thirsty characters. I don’t.

No vampires in this book. No siree, just Cauld Ane. You know what I'm talking about. Semi-Immortal beings, no sharp canines, crazy super powers...... You know. Well, I had no idea until I read this book. I was just as clueless as you, and trust me, a quick Google search links you right back to this book or the series.

Pretty cool characters to write about huh? Huh? Well, I thought so, thank you very much. The story follows Samantha Moore, who leaves her family, friends, basically her entire life to work for a big Pharmaceutical company in Edinburgh, Scotland. She develops romantic feelings for her boss, Kade Gunnach, who happens to be holding back on a few secrets or two……. No biggie right? We all have a few bones under a rug or a closet maybe.

This book is serving me insta romance on a platter. Yass hunty, insta romance on fleek. *Clears throat* I’m sorry for that outburst, I’ll be resuming my professional demeanor in 3, 2, 1…. Insta romance isn’t my idea of good romance, whether in the fiction world, or in real life. I just feel as though relationships are like seeds, you tend to them and they’ll grow. It is never something to happen overnight. Much less in two weeks, especially with someone who is withholding important information about themselves.

After two weeks and some days (I counted two- correct me on my math if necessary) it is revealed that they can communicate telepathically. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE CALL THE HILLS, CAUSE I'M COMING.....RUNNING, NO SHOES OR NOTHING.

Samantha Moore obviously is a brave heart, she stays. Only to find out about mating, immortality (well semi), binding and transformation (Kade had a right to leave out that horrid process). But wait there is more, she finds out his age. "Cue Erica Campbell- Help!" I know what you're saying, what does age have to do with love? Please, he's over six hundred years old, birthed in 1420. Yes, 1420.

More awaits you in Bound by Blood; adultery, false identities and butt kicking action. In all honesty, in spite of a few things I didn’t like here and there, I enjoyed this book. It has become one of my favs and I’ve read it about four times now. The way the characters interacted to me, made the story Golden. Five stars. I’m glad Ms. Jackson decided to share it with the world. Don’t take my word for it. Read it yourself, draw your own opinion, and let me know what you think. Read it before, leave a comment. I want to know what’s on your mind. Happy reading!
