Greek Billionaire’s Blackmailed Bride (The Rosso Family Series Book 1) - Leslie North

Picture
Greek tycoon, Matthias Rosso rules with heavy force, giving up control is not something he intends on doing - not even in death. His sins and regrets have finally caught up with him and he intends to make amends from the grave. In accordance to his will, his children, Antonio, Alexandria and Eva are to inherit his earthly fortune -except for his late wife's most prized possession and her burial ground; Villa Livia on Kato Antilleri. This he is leaving into the hands of Antonio's ex-girlfriend, Claire Bennett. But wait there's more...Antonio must get married before his twenty fifth birthday, a month away or else he forfeits his and his sister's inheritance.

The history surrounding Matthias, Antonio and Claire went south the day Matthias accused Claire of being a gold digging art student. She turned to Antonio for defense but his silence told her he agreed with his father's accusations. She wanted to defend herself, to speak out but she didn't. Instead she stood before their scrutiny and accepted Matthias' every word as a guilty child. Antonio and Claire drifted apart and soon the passion between them dwindled.

Luring Claire to Greece under the disguise of a job opportunity was the easy part. Convincing her to marry him in a month's time and handing over Villa Livia is the challenge.

Both still harboured old scars and wounds, living in the hurt of their past. There is nothing left to do than to move on. This time it is Antonio who needs Claire. Her reluctance will not deter his pursuit. He will stop at nothing to claim that which he wants. Will his determination cost him his heart?

Just how I like my reads on occasions, short and spicy. The should we or shouldn't we love story captivated my heart and attention and gave me something to nibble on in between reads.

The Greek Billionaire' s Blackmailed Bride had me like "Yass! You did that Leslie North." Intimate, fun and captivating is my three cents on this novel. I'm looking forward to reading the others within the Rosso Family Series. Happy Reading!

Unbridled Holiday - Kristin Dow

Brook must learn to trust the little people that congregate in her head. I'm talking about her natural, womanly instincts and intuition. Yet, she chooses to ignore their warnings and guidance. Which of course will lead her to dangerous waters and  paralyzing depths of disappointments, one after the next.

Her college rebound turned finance, Chip Kincaid vanished only leaving her a note with the dreaded words,
'I can't marry you.'
No reasoning, no explanation. Not even a check to cover the expenses of the wedding that never was. She puts on a brave face masking her broken heart and went with her sister to enjoy the honeymoon meant for her and Chip. They boarded a Caribbean cruise expecting a royal two weeks getaway.

Instead of the thrill of sailing over the exotic wonder, the trip starts off as a rocky ride. The pair were cramped into a small room and no matter how Brook tried, her bitterness consumed her. Little did she know she had caught someone's attention. In a fun twist of events she meets her admirer and just like that they fell in love and lived happily ever after. Well that would have been the case if Brook's and Scott's lives were based on fairy tale.

I must commend the writer for serving me a realistic romance. I thought this novel was unique, fun and exciting. Brook and Scott were relatable. Real people with real lives facing real struggles.

However, no book is without fault and I felt as though the main character's exes' points of views were unnecessary.

Aside from that, events and emotions came to life and thanks Kristin Dow, I did enjoy the Caribbean cruise. Vivid scenery. Not over done at all. This book will have you asking the question, Will Brook and Scott's romance strive on dry land? Find out in Unbridled Holiday. Happy Reading!

Voice in the Wilderness (Against All Enemies #1) - H.L. Wegley

Picture
KC Banning went from a patriotic American to being labelled as a domestic terrorist. This red haired network specialist knows too much. The two term serving president, Hannan will do all he can to silence her forever.

She runs after her mentor is shot dead. She is next. With no family to turn to she considers only one person, Brock Daniels, her one time childhood friend, now a well known blogger. After years of no communication, he is all she has. She knows that and so does he when he stumbled upon a news report telling America to beware of her.

They are united again, however, this is no time for friendly conversation. America is in danger and so are they. They must use all their wits and faith to fight off an evil president. But this isn't the only war they must engage in. A romantic war was waged between them years ago. Will they give in or will they allow their feelings of inadequacy to win?

This book gave me politics, romance, and action compiled into a few hours of a good read. Faith was tired by fire. I found myself relating to both of the main characters levels of faith. At one end of the spectrum we find KC who is struggling to accept that she can trust an unseen being. While at the further end is Brock whose trust is firmly set in a Sovereign God. A God he knows exist without a shadow of a doubt. I live for books that incorporate faith.

I enjoyed this book. The tension excited me, but it was the romance that made me fall in love with Brock and KC. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good romance. And this my friend is a good romance. Escape rattlesnakes of both the reptile and human kind, rekindle a dying faith and give yourself over to the power of love and forgiveness. Enjoy Voice in the Wilderness as much as I did. Happy Reading!

Influences shape us and morph us into whoever or whatever it chooses. In the end we can’t outrun our identity. We are who we are. Eric Tanner found this out later in life. He was dealt his share of hardships and bad influences. A skilled hit-man was who he was. His pass, a bloody mess. Yet, despite his history, someone was willing to love him. Beyond all his flaws, someone was willing to stand by his side. Always.

He found hope and a chance to be normal in Anne. Her beauty was what attracted him first. It was her heart however, that kept him. Even though she was blind, he couldn’t help the love that he developed for her. Just when he was ready to put aside his old ways, he was killed. Or was he?

Let’s just say the FBI needed his help. So badly that they would do anything to ensure he joined their team. Their mission, to take down the mayor and leader of Espinosa Cartel in San Diego; Trent Harvey. Now that Eric Tanner was ‘dead’ he would start life again as James Connelly.

Two years rolled by and James was the contracted hit-man for the Cartel’s rival; The Pachecos. The FBI’s plan was going exactly how they wanted it. James was focused and they could taste the victory they were about to score. But who said life had ended Eric’s and Anne’s love story?

The two are now neighbours. Anne’s back into his life and into his arms. The difference is he is a new man, yet his feelings for her has not changed. Get lost in this drama of a good time. Experience the ups and downs of love. The dark side of obsession. And the struggle to rearrange destiny. Happy Reading!

Revelations- Pamela Daniell

Who knew that turning seventeen could turn your world upside down? Certainly not Jenna but she is about to learn the truth. This is more than discovering who she is. She will uncover what she is. Her heritage can no longer be hidden. Her very survival depends on her knowing the truth. The whole truth!

Jenna and Erin Morgan, the daughter and mother duo seemed to be like any normal single parent household – on the surface that is. Looks can be deceiving. And boy was I deceived. Jenna has been having this reoccurring dream. She is on the beach, sand in her toes. Pretty relaxing scenery, but she isn’t there for the sun, sand and sea. The dream continues to offer her two boys. Their faces never clear. One boy full of mystery. Dark and adventurous. The other, radiated peace and a sense of calm.
They always remained at a distance with out-stretched hands. An indication for her to choose a boy. A path. Jenna shrugs it off. After all it was only a dream. It meant nothing. Right?

It takes a mysterious man buying Jenna a crystal angel pendant at a flea market, to allow her mother to realize that they weren’t safe. They had been found. It was time to move. Their move ended in a car crash, having been ran off the road by two men. Jenna was captured and placed in a facility for testing. The thing is, Jenna is no normal human. She isn’t even human. No sir. She is what they’d call a Nephilim. The offspring of an angel father and a human mother. Being a hybrid she has crazy powers and abilities. They manifest at seventeen but she has not a clue.

Anyway at the facility she meets a kind soul who is determined to help her. His name, Alex. He is just like her, having a human mom and an angel father. They escaped and are reunited with her mother. He teaches her to use her abilities. But even in hiding they just aren’t hidden enough.
Tragedy strikes and leaves Jenna raw. It leaves her vulnerable. She meets another boy, Dylan. A hometown charm. His care and love manages to soothe her breaking heart. In the end Jenna’s dream will manifest and become an ugly reality. She must choose a boy. Each will take her down a different path. Heaven or Hell. The decision is hers. No one can interfere. No one can choose for her.
See if good or evil prevails in Revelations. Don’t miss out on the epic adventure, the OMGs and the I-didn’t-see-that-coming moments. Happy reading!

The Lament Of Sky- B.B Wynter

The author categorized this book as Dark Fantasy/ Steampunk. I was there reading and a moment occurs in the book. I kid you not, I was on the verge of tears. Living eye water near drip from mine eyes. So I was like, WAIT. I’m not supposed to be crying. I’m not supposed to be emotional. After all this is Dark Fantasy.

In all honesty, this was my first read of anything under such a genre. I didn’t know what to expect. My heart was set on getting a good fright, blood and guts. I was served a great heap of them all… I won’t complain. However, I certainly wasn’t expecting to bawl. Which I believe was unfair. I was all in my feelings and then the end came. Geez! My heart couldn’t take it. It was an enjoyable read from start to end.

Let’s get into the fun part, the story itself. We are first introduced to a silver haired, paled skin, beauty. Her name, Lilyth. Who stood as the last Rhai-Angof of her time. She was rescued from near death by a Duwaiu, William. The last of his species. They are supposed lovers. Reunited. It should feel so good after such a long separation. Yet, there wasn’t any kisses in the moonlight or dirty dancing. Lilyth has lost her memory. She doesn’t recognize the face of her ‘saviour’.

The madness that shone within William’s eyes scared her. Let’s not forget his incoherent mumbling episodes. Shall we say, “Freaky!” So she did what any girl would do in the moment he tried to have his way with her. She stabbed that sucker in the leg and ran for it. Believing that he could heal himself she felt no remorse. Until it was later revealed he couldn’t. Darn. That gripped at her conscience. She wanted to stay with him then. He wouldn’t let her. It was too dangerous. There was no way his dark magic could protect her from the evil which were the Vildarii. Who wants to see her dead.

Alone in the forest she soon found help. The blue eyed mister’s name was Sky. They journeyed together and along the way they adopted another, Vergo. A clown looking fellow. Odd team indeed. They were on a mission, to fight all odds. In order to save the world by restoring a balance of power. Their common enemy, the Vildarii.

Bury your nose in this book to experience a world of love, fate, betrayal, magic, revenge and power. It was a darn good ride. Happy reading!

The Jesus Command. The Mark Of Discipleship- Matthew Milam II

11/18/2015

Picture
As Christians we were not asked to love. To choose who to extend our borders of kindness and care to. We were charged, commanded to love. Irrespective of the individual’s class, colour, creed or personality. We must love, as in loving them we prove that we are disciples of our King. The one who first loved us, Christ Jesus.

For those struggling to love another, this book will set you in the right direction. Providing for you a comprehensive guide. In it you will find a collection of scriptures that will illuminate your path as a believer. Not only believers, but those who have heard the Word of God and are seeking to draw closer to Him should have a read.

I enjoyed the fact that it was concise and after the scriptures the author ensured that readers understood its context. This was achieved through the power of explanation and the use of examples. It opened my eyes to see the flaws I still battle with as a follower of Christ. The judgmental eye, the mouth quick to offer condemnation and the heart puffed up with pride.

In my opinion, it is impossible to read this book from cover to cover and not question yourself. Am I being the light I was called to be? Am I truly using the Word as my guide? Am I loving without favour?  It is important to remain truthful to yourself, using the Word of God as the basis of your truth.

The Jesus Command, reminds us that of our own we can do nothing, which includes saving ourselves. But thank God for Jesus, who took on the sins of the world, in love. Our faith in Christ is our ticket into eternal life.

After reading I found the need to repent. For I have not loved as I ought to. I have not extended myself to my brothers and sisters when they needed me too. But I intend to do better, leaning on the power and Spirit of God that stirs change. In Christ we are new creatures, without obligation to sin. Happy Reading!

We Never Left You- Beth & Rick Olsen w/ Andrea Cagan

11/17/2015

Picture
They say death is inevitable, and the Bible teaches that it is appointed unto man once to die. In an instant it comes, in an unexpected moment. It never leaves empty handed when it visits us. It takes those we treasure, those we center our lives and identities around, those we live for. Death is the easy part. Putting together the shattered pieces of life after the death of a loved one is what’s difficult. Most give up, unable to live on. Others such as the Olsen family fight on knowing that love never dies.

Not knowing what type of journey I would experience reading this memoir, I cleared my schedule, dedicating my day to it. I began, and as I read I wished I was reading fiction. I wished that I would get to the end and have my heart comforted that this wasn’t reality. Instead it was from the imaginations of two brilliant authors. But this was no fiction. This was someone’s reality. This was the pain of a family.

Beth and Rick Olsen walks us through the horrific dilemma that left their two young children, Joshua and Jessica dead. They bared their raw souls, leaving no emotion in the dark. They showed us how the death of their ‘little worlds’ changed their relationships with family, friends and even God. It was a powerful story and gripped my heart and refused to release it.

 We Never Left You
teaches that the road to healing is no one way street. There is no right or wrong way. Also for most, the road to recovery requires an extension of one’s boundaries. It may require one to move from what is regarded as the norms.

This book isn’t a How-To-Guide, as everyone must deal with their grief in the best way they know how. However, this book is a great start to remind the one who grieves that they are not alone, and they can overcome the trauma. Memories will never vanish, but the suffering doesn’t need to continue. Not only those that grieve should have a read, we all should. As it will teach us to be sensitive to those who are trying to patch their lives together after the loss.
Happy Reading!

Corridors of my Mind- Angel M.B Chadwick

Picture
One word, Raw. Just for added kicks and sweet pleasure, I’ll describe my read using another word, Uncensored.

The Corridors of my Mind is a collection of poems. As the writer unfolds before us using words, lines and stanzas to express herself, her experiences, her truth, the reader has no choice but to sit and listen. Listen to the cries of a broken woman, a victim who finds her way. We see her transforming from victim to victor, seeing her scars and bruises as battle scars.

She extends a hand and takes us into the confines of her mind. Not afraid to reveal its dark content. Tired of suppressing her truth she writes, again and again. Creating poem after poem. And all you can do is listen. Frozen in time reading and absorbing each and every line.

You can’t afford to harden your heart and pretend to be oblivious to her pain. So the read continues. From where you stand it is impossible to reach out and mend her hurting soul. Instead you lend an ear, or two and allow her to express herself.

When she’s done, she finds herself empty. Having given us every gory detail, every life changing experience, there is nothing more to give.

Take the journey into the writer’s mind. Fall in love, fall in hate, and fall in desire. Don’t hesitate, a good read awaits you. Happy reading!

Loot- Chris Keane

Picture
Andy Astoria is dead set on getting an Atari 2600. For all you cool cats out there who was wondering, it’s just a fancy home video game console. The boy has his speech down and his strategy is fool proof. Well, in his mind anyway. All he has to do is butter up is mom and as a team they’ll persuade the more daunting challenge; dad. Pretty easy.

He goes home to find a letter saying that his Aunt Edie has died and he should come over to his Aunt Cally’s house. He goes. Nothing else on his mind but the sweet Atari 2600. And I mean nothing. Finding his mother distraught, he mans up and faces his dad. Alone. He drops the news, ignoring the fact that he is literally at his dead Aunt’s wake. Have you no love, have you no compassion, man?  He wants what he wants and is willing to forget about getting a gift for Christmas. In Jamaica we’d say, “Di yout serious so til’. (The youngster is serious). Sweet proposal right? Well, the dad didn’t take the bait saying it was too expensive. With his bubble busted he takes himself up to the deck.

What is Andy to do? How else is he supposed to fertilize his young mind? He needs the game. A solution is presented. Well, not directly to him. But thanks to the chatty adults and the blessing of good hearing, he finds out that his dead Aunt has loads stashed away somewhere in her ol’ farmhouse. He isn’t the only one who wants the loot. The entire family wants a hand in the share. However, the determination of youths wins every time.

Andy and his trusted friends heads out to the farmhouse. Their mission, find the loot and then purchase the game. So they ditch the traditions of Halloween’s trick- or- treating. The calling of the valuables proves oh so strong. They are off, but aren’t the only ones in search of treasure that very night.

Doug, Andy’s larger than life, sixteen year old cousin has his sights set on Aunt Edie’s money. His plans urgent, he needs to move out of his mother’s house. With the essentials packed; a canteen, boots, a riding jacket, food rations, a med kit, and a Swiss Army knife, he heads to Sussex on his dirt bike. Who will come out with the loot?

My little heart couldn’t take so much excitement and suspense. From the boys almost being ran over by Doug, to them being shot by an old lady. It was too much. I wasn’t ready!!! I could hear the pounding of my heart as Doug entered the house, knowing darn well that the boys had beaten him to the treasure. Then Carl pulls out a hunting knife he found inside the house on Doug. Geez. My heart nearly stopped. Much drama, fun, suspense and laugh awaits you. Happy Reading!
