The author categorized this book as Dark Fantasy/ Steampunk. I was there reading and a moment occurs in the book. I kid you not, I was on the verge of tears. Living eye water near drip from mine eyes. So I was like, WAIT. I’m not supposed to be crying. I’m not supposed to be emotional. After all this is Dark Fantasy.

In all honesty, this was my first read of anything under such a genre. I didn’t know what to expect. My heart was set on getting a good fright, blood and guts. I was served a great heap of them all… I won’t complain. However, I certainly wasn’t expecting to bawl. Which I believe was unfair. I was all in my feelings and then the end came. Geez! My heart couldn’t take it. It was an enjoyable read from start to end.

Let’s get into the fun part, the story itself. We are first introduced to a silver haired, paled skin, beauty. Her name, Lilyth. Who stood as the last Rhai-Angof of her time. She was rescued from near death by a Duwaiu, William. The last of his species. They are supposed lovers. Reunited. It should feel so good after such a long separation. Yet, there wasn’t any kisses in the moonlight or dirty dancing. Lilyth has lost her memory. She doesn’t recognize the face of her ‘saviour’.

The madness that shone within William’s eyes scared her. Let’s not forget his incoherent mumbling episodes. Shall we say, “Freaky!” So she did what any girl would do in the moment he tried to have his way with her. She stabbed that sucker in the leg and ran for it. Believing that he could heal himself she felt no remorse. Until it was later revealed he couldn’t. Darn. That gripped at her conscience. She wanted to stay with him then. He wouldn’t let her. It was too dangerous. There was no way his dark magic could protect her from the evil which were the Vildarii. Who wants to see her dead.

Alone in the forest she soon found help. The blue eyed mister’s name was Sky. They journeyed together and along the way they adopted another, Vergo. A clown looking fellow. Odd team indeed. They were on a mission, to fight all odds. In order to save the world by restoring a balance of power. Their common enemy, the Vildarii.

Bury your nose in this book to experience a world of love, fate, betrayal, magic, revenge and power. It was a darn good ride. Happy reading!

Bound By Fire- Tracey Jane Jackson

In the words of Persephone Ester Gunnach herself, “It’s just all happened so fast.”

You darn right Pepper. I’ve never in my life seen romance build in such a hurry. I tell you the love between Persephone and Connall took off like the speed of light. Which means that 299792458 meters per second equals a week. According to Claud Ane maths. If we want to get a tad scientific.

I’m ready to spill some hella hot tea. If you read Bound by Blood, which is the starter of this series. You’d know who Pepper and Con are. If you haven’t read it as yet I’ll enlighten you….a bit. Persephone aka Pepper is Samantha Moore’s horse loving, childhood friend. Yes, the same Samantha who is now married to Kade Gunnach. The king/ leader of the Claud Ane clan. Who turns out to be the brother of the vet doctor, Connall Gunnach. Stay with me here. This is some deep stuff.

Binding, mating and conversion (for humans) aren’t anything new in the world of the ‘cold ones’, the Anes. But to most humans, these concepts are foreign. Samantha didn’t mention the whole truth to Pepper. So she really was in the dark until she started hearing voices in her head. No, the child isn’t going mad. Despite the fact that she has a stalker on her hand. However, she is pretty much sane. The voices she has been hearing in her times of distress is the soothing voice of her mate. You wanna take a guess who he is? Ding Ding. He’s Connall Gunnach.

They are brought together due to Samantha and Kade’s wedding. In the span of one week. I kid you not. They identified that they were indeed mates. Destined to be together forever. Roll out the fairy tale red carpet. I wasn’t surprised by this fact. Expected. There’s more. During that same week they were bound. Became husband and wife according to the culture of the Anes and moved in together. Talk about an eventful week.

I hate it that ‘I love yous’ were being thrown around like nobody’s business within just about three days of Pepper and Conn meeting each other. If the fact that they could communicate telepathically didn’t send her running. Surely the fact that he was a six hundred and some year old, semi-immortal being should have. But, just like her brave friend Sam she stuck it out. The sweet believability of fiction!

Aside from that, I must admit that Ms. Jackson knows how to tell a story. I may not have agreed with the romance timeline. Yet, I found myself loving the characters and their interactions. That’s what kept me turning the digital pages of this novel.

Get caught up into the Gunnach’s love fest. Surprises are waiting to throw you off balance. Happy Reading!

The Jesus Command. The Mark Of Discipleship- Matthew Milam II

As Christians we were not asked to love. To choose who to extend our borders of kindness and care to. We were charged, commanded to love. Irrespective of the individual’s class, colour, creed or personality. We must love, as in loving them we prove that we are disciples of our King. The one who first loved us, Christ Jesus.

For those struggling to love another, this book will set you in the right direction. Providing for you a comprehensive guide. In it you will find a collection of scriptures that will illuminate your path as a believer. Not only believers, but those who have heard the Word of God and are seeking to draw closer to Him should have a read.

I enjoyed the fact that it was concise and after the scriptures the author ensured that readers understood its context. This was achieved through the power of explanation and the use of examples. It opened my eyes to see the flaws I still battle with as a follower of Christ. The judgmental eye, the mouth quick to offer condemnation and the heart puffed up with pride.

In my opinion, it is impossible to read this book from cover to cover and not question yourself. Am I being the light I was called to be? Am I truly using the Word as my guide? Am I loving without favour?  It is important to remain truthful to yourself, using the Word of God as the basis of your truth.

The Jesus Command, reminds us that of our own we can do nothing, which includes saving ourselves. But thank God for Jesus, who took on the sins of the world, in love. Our faith in Christ is our ticket into eternal life.

After reading I found the need to repent. For I have not loved as I ought to. I have not extended myself to my brothers and sisters when they needed me too. But I intend to do better, leaning on the power and Spirit of God that stirs change. In Christ we are new creatures, without obligation to sin. Happy Reading!

We Never Left You- Beth & Rick Olsen w/ Andrea Cagan

They say death is inevitable, and the Bible teaches that it is appointed unto man once to die. In an instant it comes, in an unexpected moment. It never leaves empty handed when it visits us. It takes those we treasure, those we center our lives and identities around, those we live for. Death is the easy part. Putting together the shattered pieces of life after the death of a loved one is what’s difficult. Most give up, unable to live on. Others such as the Olsen family fight on knowing that love never dies.

Not knowing what type of journey I would experience reading this memoir, I cleared my schedule, dedicating my day to it. I began, and as I read I wished I was reading fiction. I wished that I would get to the end and have my heart comforted that this wasn’t reality. Instead it was from the imaginations of two brilliant authors. But this was no fiction. This was someone’s reality. This was the pain of a family.

Beth and Rick Olsen walks us through the horrific dilemma that left their two young children, Joshua and Jessica dead. They bared their raw souls, leaving no emotion in the dark. They showed us how the death of their ‘little worlds’ changed their relationships with family, friends and even God. It was a powerful story and gripped my heart and refused to release it.

 We Never Left You
teaches that the road to healing is no one way street. There is no right or wrong way. Also for most, the road to recovery requires an extension of one’s boundaries. It may require one to move from what is regarded as the norms.

This book isn’t a How-To-Guide, as everyone must deal with their grief in the best way they know how. However, this book is a great start to remind the one who grieves that they are not alone, and they can overcome the trauma. Memories will never vanish, but the suffering doesn’t need to continue. Not only those that grieve should have a read, we all should. As it will teach us to be sensitive to those who are trying to patch their lives together after the loss.
Happy Reading!

Dancing with the Dead- Charles Freedom Long

Being in the Caribbean school system, I remembered being introduced to other religions and cultures. It seemed very strange and the experience came from either the text book or the mouth of the religious education teacher. Back then we didn’t take the time to dig deeper to investigate outside of the concrete walls of school. We clung to the short summaries and synopsis as if they were ‘good food’.

Dancing with the Dead is based on Islamic traditions and teachings tied together with a scientific ribbon. I’m going to be honest, I read this book wanting to spread my wings and take a break from Romance Novels. I was experiencing Romance Overload!!! Don’t misquote me, there were mentions of affairs of the heart or as Mr. Long would put it; ålska kön between Fahd (the human) and Quenby (the Antal alien). However, this was no Romance Fest. The author categorized it as science and spiritual fiction. Enough with the techie and blah stuff let’s get into the juicy meat of this novel.

To kill ALL life on Luna City was the young Fahd’s aim. He was on a kick ass, nope, more like kill ass mission if you will. Ready to die in the very process, willing to become a martyr. How was he prepared for such a mission you ask? Believe me, I won’t lie to you. For twelve years, count ‘em, twelve, he was trained which included him being physically struck. All of this was done in order to produce an emotionless, stone cold killer for religious ‘truth’. Yet, his conscience remained and he began questioning the meaning of truth, honour, right and wrong.

Everything went as expected. He passed his test to be an aerospace engineer on Luna and he smuggled the explosives without drawing any suspicion to himself. He was set and ready to die in the name of Allah, in the name of ‘truth’. But then life happened and with it came an unexpected love, an unconditional love. Life and death were the roads stretched ahead of him, the choice was his, only his. To die meant he would harm the one he loved, Quenby. To live still equaled death, which would also extend to his entire family.

This story will take you on a trip, from dealings with the dead, to hostage situations, to blood and guts. Then when you feel as though you have the story all figured out, the end causes you to stub your flipping toe. You won’t see it coming, I sure didn’t. Happy Reading!
